The Lead-Up to Chase Center: Santana

Monday November 11, 2019

It’s all about the flow, rhythm and soul as Carlos Santana makes his way to Chase Center for the final leg of his Supernatural Now tour this Tuesday, November 12. The three-month, 29-date tour will fittingly conclude its run in San Francisco, where the prolific artist resided for the majority of his adolescent life. "It is an honor to play in my backyard in San Francisco and to be one of the first artists to perform at Chase Center,” the ten-time Grammy Award winning artist excitedly shared.

Santana’s Bay Area roots run deep. In 1966, he was chosen along with other musicians to form an ad hoc band to substitute for Paul Butterfield and play a Sunday matinee at Bill Graham's Fillmore West. Later in 1966 he formed the Santana Blues Band, who garnered the attention of rock music promoter Bill Graham. Graham, a Latin Music aficionado who had been a fan of Santana from its inception, arranged for the band to appear at the Woodstock before the band’s debut album was even released.

Not only will the evening celebrate Santana’s homecoming, the performance will commemorate two important milestones in the guitarist ‘s career: the 20th anniversary of his groundbreaking, multiple Grammy-winning album Supernatural and the 50th anniversary of his legendary performance at Woodstock. Thirty years before the success of Supernatural, Santana mesmerized crowds at Woodstock with the band’s performance of “Soul Sacrifice” regarded as one of the most memorable performances to date.

In a similar celebratory sentiment, Santana’s Supernatural album, which later debuted in 1999, topped charts by selling 30 million copies worldwide and won a record-tying nine Grammys for a single project, including Album of the Year. The Supernatural Now tour will memorialize both incredible accomplishments while also celebrating the ways in which Santana continues to artistically evolve through the years decades.

In fact, this will not be the first time the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame guitarist has performed at Chase Center. He put his own spin on the inaugural National Anthem at the Warriors Opening Night just a few weeks ago.

From the Mission to Mission Bay, Carlos Santana closes out his Supernatural Now tour on Tuesday, November 12 at Chase Center. As fans prepare for the iconic guitarist’s performance, listen to some of his most vibrant jams on the Chase Center Artist Playlist and get tickets to the show here.
