Bakesale Betty
Bakesale Betty is the quirky, blue-haired alter ego of chef Alison Barakat, whose Buttermilk Fried Chicken Sandwiches have developed a cult following since she and her husband Michael opened their lunch spot Bakesale Betty in Oakland’s Temescal neighborhood in 2005.
Inspired by a fried chicken recipe Alison learned as a line cook at Berkeley’s iconic Chez Panisse, the ethereally crispy chicken is marinated, hand-dredged and fried, then served on an Acme bakery roll with crunchy housemade slaw. Alison and Michael are committed to using the best ingredients, which truly makes their food stand out. Droves of people line up along Telegraph Avenue every day to order chicken sandwiches — so many that the restaurant usually sells out of them. The Warriors are proud to share Bakesale Betty’s crispy culinary phenomenon with the fans.
