From Courtside to Community: How the Warriors and Pritchard Sports are Turning Arena Waste into Urban Wildflowers
When you think of a thrilling night at Chase Center watching the Golden State Warriors, "sustainability" might not be the first word that comes to mind. You're probably thinking about buzzer-beaters, high-energy crowds, and stadium snacks.
But behind the scenes, a quiet revolution is happening—one that takes the waste generated during the game and turns it into vibrant new life across the Bay Area.
We are incredibly excited to announce the launch of the Community Seed Campaign, a unique partnership between Pritchard Sports & Entertainment Group, Acta Non Verba, and the Golden State Warriors. Together, we’re proving that live entertainment venues can be powerful hubs for environmental change.
The Full-Circle Journey: From Waste to Wildflowers
At the core of this campaign is a simple but powerful idea: turning waste into growth. It’s a true full-circle sustainability story that works in three distinct steps:
- Step 1: The Arena Catch Through Pritchard’s onsite sustainability efforts at Chase Center, organic waste is meticulously collected and sorted.
- Step 2: The Transformation Instead of heading to a landfill, this organic waste is processed through a state-of-the-art biodigester system. The result? A specialized, nutrient-rich compost additive that goes right back into the Earth.
- Step 3: Planting the Seeds This specialized soil was brought to Acta Non Verba’s West Oakland Farm Park, where volunteers used it to create more than 2,000 California poppy seed pods.
Passing the Ball to the Fans
The journey didn't end at the farm. To empower our community to take climate action into their own hands, these seed pods were distributed to thousands of fans as an exit giveaway during a Warriors game.
Now, those thousands of fans are planting those seeds in their own backyards, neighborhoods, and local parks, directly contributing to urban greening across the Bay Area.
Leadership in Action
This initiative is a testament to what happens when organizations align their values for the greater good.
Jason Brock, President of Pritchard Sports and Entertainment Group, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that real sustainability requires hands-on action:
“At Pritchard Sports & Entertainment Group, sustainability is about action. This initiative tells a full-circle story from waste diversion inside the arena to creating something meaningful that goes back into the community. That’s where real impact happens.”
Why This Matters
The Community Seed Campaign is more than just a feel-good eco-project. It highlights how major venues can serve as massive platforms for environmental impact. By connecting operational sustainability practices with community engagement, we can make climate action tangible, memorable, and—most importantly—accessible to everyone.
Next time you're cheering on the Warriors, take a look around. Impact isn't just happening on the court; it's growing right beneath our feet.
