Fresh off of their sixth 20+ win season in the last seven years, the San Francisco men’s basketball team will return eight letterwinners from last year’s team in addition to a new wave of talent. Notably, former top 100 recruits Mike Sharavjamts and Malik Thomas along with versatile Chinese forward Junjie “Barry” Wang and local phenom Ryan Beasley. Entering his second year at the helm of the Dons, head coach Chris Gerlufsen aims to get the green and gold back to March Madness this season. Overall, San Francisco added five Division I transfers and two incoming freshmen this offseason.
Regarded as one of the perennial powerhouses in collegiate basketball, Gonzaga has appeared in 24 consecutive NCAA Tournaments, including eight straight Sweet 16 appearances. Last season, the Bulldogs eclipsed the 30-win mark for the sixth time in seven years as Gonzaga advanced to the Elite Eight before falling to national champion UConn. Gonzaga has also won a share of the West Coast Conference crown for the past 11 seasons. This year, Gonzaga will return forward Anton Watson, who started all 37 games for GU in 2022-23, and former McDonald’s All-American Nolan Hickman. Leading the charge, head coach Mark Few enters his 25th season at the helm of the Bulldogs in 2023-24.
