Thrive City Announces Golden Rule
Earlier today, Back Home Hospitality announced the opening of Golden Rule, its first bar concept from Chef David Nayfeld and Matthew Brewer at Thrive City. Golden Rule features a Bay Area-inspired cocktail and food menu and is open Thursdays through Saturdays from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., as well as on all Chase Center event days.
Golden Rule is a reflection of the Bay Area, a bar celebrating the region’s cultural diversity through a drink and food menu shaped by local ingredients. Guided by its namesake philosophy, with a nod to the Bay Area’s teams, the Golden State Warriors and Golden State Valkyries, Golden Rule is a welcoming gathering space with a thoughtful cocktail program offering something for everyone. For Nayfeld and Brewer, it demonstrates their continued commitment to San Francisco and the development of the Mission Bay neighborhood.
Led by Back Home Hospitality Bar Director Danielle Peters-Clossey, the cocktail menu is divided into three sections: House Cocktails, Little Treats and Spirit Free with nearly two dozen offerings available on regular nights and a streamlined menu during major events.
Standouts from the House Cocktails include the MIP (most improved player), a slightly smoky, spirit-forward mix of gin, bitter aperitif, musk melon, mezcal, vermouth and Hubba Bubba mist; Ms. Denise, Golden Rule’s take on a clarified milk punch made with bourbon, montenegro, strawberry milk, assam and citrus; the Bi-Coastal, a tropical rum and cold brew cocktail topped with banana cold foam; and Halftime Snacks, a drink reminiscent of capri sun and orange slices made with vodka, bitter aperitivo, guava eau de vie, pomegranate honey and lime.
The Little Treats section offers a variety of miniature cocktails for easy sipping including Elevator Pitch, lightly carbonated with bourbon, Crodino sidecar, aromatic bitters and orange; the Snaquiri with rum, lime, and chili picante inca corn; and a Mini ‘Tini with gin, dry vermouth, Castelvetrano and shio koji. A selection of wine and beer will also be available.
Chef David Nayfeld has created a menu of snacks with offerings such as BBQ Corn Nuts, Peri Peri Spiced Nut Mix and Potato Chips dusted in chili and lime. Guests looking for something heartier can choose from a rotating selection of pizza rolls.
Golden Rule’s design was created in collaboration with longtime partner Jon de la Cruz of DLC ID to create a space that is designed to feel welcoming, lively and easy to settle into, whether heading to a game, catching a concert or meeting up with friends for a drink. The space mixes textured walls with bold pops of orange, red and blue, inspired by the Warriors’ original jerseys when they moved to the Bay Area in 1962. Inside, the bar seats 15, with additional table seating throughout, plus an outdoor patio with room for 30, and plenty of televisions for watching the action.
Golden Rule is located at 720 Terry Francois Blvd and is open Thursdays through Saturdays from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., and on all Chase Center event days. For more information, visit goldenrulebar.com or follow on Instagram @goldenrulebarsf.
