Golden State Warriors and American Red Cross Announce Additional Thrive City Community Blood Drive Dates

Thursday August 6, 2020

The Golden State Warriors and American Red Cross have announced additional Thrive City Community Blood Drive dates, the first of which is scheduled to take place this Saturday, August 8, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Thrive City. The purpose of the additional dates is to continue to attract a diverse group of blood donors, some of whom may be able to help patients with different illnesses or inherited diseases such as sickle cell anemia. To make an appointment, please CLICK HERE.

Additional Thrive City Community Blood Drive dates and times are below:
•Saturday, August 29 – 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
•Friday, September 11 – 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
•Saturday, September 19 – 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

A total of 50 pints of blood were collected during the first Thrive City Community Blood Drive in July, which may help as many as 150 patients in need of life saving blood products. Photos can be found HERE.

The Red Cross has an urgent need for African American blood donors as the COVID-19 pandemic has caused unprecedented supply challenges. Many blood drives continue to be cancelled while the need for blood products for patients with sickle cell disease has remained steady. Sickle cell patients are at high risk of serious complications from coronavirus infection, and blood transfusion can be a lifesaving treatment for these patients.

Healthy individuals who are feeling well are asked to make an appointment to donate in the weeks and months ahead by downloading the free Red Cross Blood Donor App, visiting RedCrossBlood.org, calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or enabling the Blood Donor Skill on any Alexa Echo device and entering sponsor code ThriveCity.

Each Red Cross blood drive and donation center follows the highest standards of safety and infection control. Donors are asked to schedule an appointment prior to arrival and are required to wear a face covering or mask while at the drive, in alignment with Centers for Disease Control public guidance.

Donors can save up to 15 minutes at the blood drive by completing a RapidPass®. With RapidPass®, donors complete the pre-donation reading and health history questionnaire online, on the day of donation, from a mobile device or computer. To complete a RapidPass®, follow the instructions at RedCrossBlood.org/RapidPass or use the Red Cross Blood Donor App.

In California, individuals who are 17 years of age (16 with parental consent where allowed by state law), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.
