Chase Center has announced that the venue will host the Bruce-Mahoney Basketball Doubleheader between Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory (SHC) and St. Ignatius College Preparatory boys and girls basketball teams on January 14, 2025. The girls varsity basketball game will tip off at 5 p.m., and the boys varsity basketball game will tip-off at 7 p.m.
Established in 1947, the Bruce-Mahoney is named in remembrance of St Ignatius graduate Bill Bruce (SI 1935) and Sacred Heart graduate Jerry Mahoney (SH 1944) to honor their service to the country during World War II. The rivalry between the two schools is one of the oldest and most celebrated in the country, dating back to 1893. The long-standing athletic tradition consists of a best-of-five series made up of girls volleyball, football, boys basketball, girls basketball and boys baseball. The school that wins three of the five sports wins the coveted Bruce-Mahoney Trophy.
Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory (SHC) is an innovative preparatory school serving students throughout the Bay Area.
